Boronia National Events
As one of the suburbs of the City of Knox, Boronia has its own distinct personality and culture that is celebrated by its residents and visitors. Apart from the wonderful local attractions and venues that it has to offer, Boronia is also a great place to experience some of the most globally recognized annual events. 1. Australia Day - January 26
In Australia, the 26th of January marks the day when the First Fleet arrived in Sydney in 1788 and it was made an official public holiday in 1994. On this day, Australians celebrate being proud of their traditions, culture, and achievements as well as the positive aspects of the country. The day begins with a flag raising ceremony followed by live entertainment, kids’ activities, and much more at the Boronia Cricket Ground.
2. Anzac Day - April 25
On April 25th, Australians and New Zealanders commemorate the soldiers who died during the Gallipoli campaign of World War I. The day includes a dawn service and a march to the Cenotaph, which honors the fallen and serves as a place for remembrance. The procession is followed by a two-up game and live entertainment at the Knox Club.
3. Boronia Fireworks Spectacular - November
The annual Boronia Fireworks Spectacular is a much-awaited event that takes place in November each year. The display of fireworks is accompanied by food stalls, rides for kids, live music, and much more. This is a great way to celebrate the end of the year with family and friends.
4. Melbourne International Comedy Festival - March/April
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is one of the major cultural highlights of the year in Victoria. Boronia’s proximity to Melbourne offers access to leading comedians from across the globe. The festival features a long line-up of stand-up comedians, roasts, and improv shows, among other events.
5. Spring Racing Carnival - October/November
The Spring Racing Carnival is one of the most exciting events on the Australian sporting calendar and Melbourne is the hosting city for many of the races. The carnival runs for around ten weeks and includes the famous Melbourne Cup, which is known as the “race that stops a nation”. The festival is not solely about horse racing as it also features fashion, glamorous parties, and delicious food.
6. Victorian Hot Rod Show - January
The Victorian Hot Rod Show attracts thousands of car enthusiasts from all over Australia and the world. The show features a variety of hot rods, muscle cars, and custom vehicles. There are several side attractions, including food stalls, live music, and autograph sessions with popular drivers.
7. White Night Melbourne - August
White Night Melbourne is an annual event that takes over the city with light installations, performances, and art projections on the side of buildings. The city comes alive with a vibrant atmosphere and people can explore Melbourne’s hidden alleys and laneways, which are transformed into immersive installations.
