Boronia, located 29 kilometres east of the Melbourne City Centre, is a quiet suburb in the cosmopolitan city of Melbourne, Victoria. Its population started growing in the 1920s with the opening of the Boronia Railway Station, and now has over 20,000 residents. Part of the Local Government Area of the City of Knox, this picturesque residential area provides a nice view of Melbourne, as well as a backdrop of the Dandenong Ranges National Park.

This tree-lined suburb was named by Alfred Elliott Chandler in 1915 after the beautiful boronia plant, which grew on his property in The Basin. This botanical motif is carried over onto many of Boronia's streets: Cypress Avenue, Daffodil Road, Hazelwood Road, Iris Crescent, Oak Avenue, Olive Grove, Pine Crescent, Sycamore Crescent, and Tulip Crescent. This all the more adds to Boronia's "close-to-nature" appeal, and Knox City Council has sought to protect this with its pro-environment planning guidelines.

The residents of Boronia can always find something to do, or a place to go to, or a cause to participate in. This is made possible by the numerous social or civic groups within the community, such as the Boronia Bowls Club, Country Women's Association, Lions Club, Probus Clubs, Returned and Services League, Rotary Club, VIEW Club, and YWCA Women's Group.

Sports enthusiasts also have much to enjoy in Boronia owing to its numerous sporting avenues. More than that, Boronia's residents can take pride in two of the suburb's standard-bearing sports clubs: The Boronia Hawks (an "Australian Rules" football team that competes in the Eastern Football League) and the Boronia Cricket Club.
